Over the past 20 years lasers have certainly changed the way
we live and go about our daily lives. It seems lasers can do everything from
vision correction to military weaponry and everything in between. Lasers have
come a long way since its inception in 1960 by American Engineer Theodore Maiman.
Who would have thought that lasers would
be the foundation of so many different types of medical procedures and they
continue to reinvent the way laser light is used. Amazing!
Austin Laser Hair Removal is by no means a new type of
treatment type in the laser industry. It was first performed experimentally for
about twenty years before Laser Hair Removal became FDA approved and commercially available in the mid-1990s. Although
there are many different types of lasers brands and manufacturers they all have
one common interest. Laser Light is used to target the hair follicle which
resides in the dermis layer of the skin. Of course there is also Electrolysis and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
treatments that can effective remove hair, Laser Hair Removal is by far the
most popular treatment for hair removal today. There are many types of lasers on the market however a large percentage of Dr. Offices, Medical Spas and Dermatology Centers rely on the cutting edge technology of the Candela GentleYag and the GentleLase. These two lasers can effectively and painlessly eliminate unwanted hair permanently. The GentleYag uses a neodymium-doped crystal to generate laser energy that effectively penetrates the skin at 1064 nanometers. This longer wavelength, coupled with a short 3-millisecond pulse allows an effective treatment to even the smallest hair diameters. The laser also uses a unique a Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) spray to cool the skin prior to each laser pulse. The exclusive cooling technology protects the skin and provides comfort while the laser energy penetrates the skin to reach the hair follicle.
The GentleLase works similar to the GentleYag however it
utilizes a 755 nanometer Alexandrite crystal to penetrate deep into the dermis
layer of the skin. Like the GentleYag, it also utilizes the Dynamic Cooling to
cool the skin prior to the treatment pulse of the laser. This makes for a fast,
painless and effective treatment for your clients. In addition to comfort,
having these two laser hair removal machines on hand enables you to effectively
treat all skin types based on the Fitzpatrick Skin Chart.
So when is a good time to start Laser Hair Removal Treatments?

So when is a good time to start Laser Hair Removal Treatments?
Well, great question. There is never a bad to start Laser Hair
Removal treatments however there are a few things you need to know and consider
before you decide you want to be on the path to “hair free”. For one, hair
grows in stages. This means that multiple treatments will be necessary for you
to target each of your individual hair follicles. To go into this a bit deeper,
hair grows a staggered pattern referred to as the Anagen, Catagen and Telogen
phases. In short, while some hairs are growing, some are falling out, or in the
process of falling out. This process changes every two to four months which is
why multiple treatments are required, generally 6-9 treatments will permanently
reduce unwanted hair although the treatment time between treatments is also a
critical part of the elimination process. It is suggested that treatments are
approximately 30 days apart however this depends on the area being treated. Following the link here to view a complete list of treatment pre-care guidelines or the laser hair removal aftercare page to learn more.
